ABOUT

“Some singers are gifted with a voice that has the power to uplift – irrespective of the song being sung. Anna Hawkins is one such individual. . . her voice enfolds and enhances all musical material that crosses her path.”

- NZ Musician

“A voice, range and expressive tone that could turn a nursery rhyme into something beautiful. . .”

- Sunday Star Times

Known for her expressive vocals and moving interpretations New Zealand songstress Anna Hawkins crosses the great divides of classical, folk and popular music.

Drawing comparisons with the likes of folk singer/songwriter Loreena McKennitt for her debut album Anna’s inspirations have been as varied as her performance styles. Her first public performance arrived at just seven years of age where she became a regular singing her heart out and stacking up award’s in the NZ Country & Western music circuit. However, at age 11 Anna began classical training and country music halls gave way to recitals and performing alongside orchestras.

As a solo artist Anna has gone on to tour New Zealand with famed Welsh tenor Paul Potts and sing at the likes of 'Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park’ ‘Sunset Symphony’ and ‘ASB Classical Sparks’ where she premiered her original ‘Journey On’ with the Christchurch Symphony. The list continues to include  performances at 'Rugby World Cup,' and 'V8 Supercars,' as well as regular slots at festivals such as 'TSB Festival of Lights,’ 'Katikati Twilight Festival,' ‘Concert in the Vines’ 'Auckland Seafood Festival,' 'Hamilton Gardens Arts Festival,' 'Tauranga Seafood Festival,' and ‘Concert in the Orchard.’

Forever drawn to the stage she's also performed leading roles in musicals Les Miserables, Chess, Jekyll & Hyde, Miss Saigon and most recently as 'Christine' in Ken Hill's 'Phantom of the Opera' in Tokyo. She's currently reprising the role of Florence in Chess.

Anna’s music continues to open doors in unexpected places. As an independent artist she's recorded with world class musicians, orchestras and producers in Poland (Pawel Zarecki) London (Ross Cullum) and Israel as well as her native New Zealand creating three unique full-length albums. These include the cinematic folk-inspired 'Journey On,' (2013), crossover album 'Divine,' (2015) and her most recent offering ‘Bold, Brave & Beautiful’ (2017) which saw Anna develop as a songwriter offering expression to the themes of freedom, courage and vulnerability.
