INTERVIEW - NZ MUSICIAN FEATURE

13th Floor

Direct from Tauranga, here is Anna Hawkins to sing a few tunes from her latest album, Dreamer.

Kudos to Anna for making the trip to Auckland while heavily pregnant. For us, the trip was worth it as her voice is beautiful and Nick Jones and Duncan Crawford provide perfect accompaniment.

"Some singers are gifted with a voice that has the power to uplift (almost) everyone - irrespective of the song being sung. Anna Hawkins is one such individual . . . her voice enfolds and enhances all musical material that crosses her path."

Anna Hawkins could be our next international star,  last November she released her second album "Divine."

Recorded in Poland and mixed in London, it has received widespread critical acclaim and looks set to follow the success of her debut album which reached Number six on the New Zealand Chart.

Anna Hawkins crosses the great divides of pop, classical, opera and Celtic – and does so beautifully, with stunning voice and evident talent. This album is based on its title’s theme – and covers it all within that. From the universal Amazing Grace, to other reverential material like Praise To The Lord, Hallelujah and You Raise Me Up, to some really lovely Christmas compositions such as What Child Is This and O Holy Night. . . .

The ultimate Christmas album, not only because it covers all bases, faith-wise, but also as it sounds so heavenly.

Loreena McKennitt has a daughter!

But seriously… it’s as good an introduction as any, as Anna Hawkins ’ album is of equivalent quality and depth, and I’m a big fan of McKennitt – fusing Celtic, operatic and international flavours into passionate songs and lyrical flows.
